Is special drainage actually needed around a pool when installing interlocking stones?
We’re preparing to renovate the pool area, and the contractor insists we need deeper drainage channels under the interlocking. But someone else told me it’s unnecessary unless your yard floods constantly. The mixed advice is confusing, and I really don’t want to spend extra on something that isn’t essential. At the same time I don’t want puddles forming every time the kids jump into the pool and splash half the water out.

During our renovation last year we got tired of guessing and brought in people who specialize in this stuff. In the middle of the planning phase we used https://oakshs.ca/etobicoke-interlocking-services/ and they showed us how pool zones need a slightly different structure. Extra drainage kept the surface dry, stable, and way safer. Honestly, it made the whole pool area feel much more solid.
